Veteran's Day and an Etiquette Question

Wednesday Whining

Today is another day of beating the shit against the tide. The newspaper hopefully starts today so I can start the hunt again. There has to be something out there for me that's even just a shade better than this. I hate the general idea that all of us are "interchangeable cogs in the machinery that is mass claims." Ther is nothing here that makes me any different than the other 80 or so specialists. They don't particularly care who does the work, as long as it's done. I'm not asking to be treated as someone special, I'd be absolutely ecstatic if they treated me as someone who has a pulse and managed to graduate from high school with something resembling intellect. Everything here is "need to know" and if the pip squeaks that are the supervisors (in this case, Analysts) determine you don't need to know why, then they don't tell you. You get a "because it needs to be done this way" with a look of "how dare you question me!" attitude. They don't owe me an explanation, but I can guarantee that if you explain WHY it has to be done this way you'll see lightbulbs popping on all over the place and people will be more willing to do something that they believe fits in with the overall idea of this place. Maybe it's just me.

There's nothing terribly horrific going on here, it just seems to never end. When we develop friendships, they do their best to put a stop to it. At the end of this week, the four of us who've been transferred to the other team will all have new cubes, with us spread out as far apart from each other as is physically possible. I guess friendships and the like doesn't make for good business. I've also noticed that a good many of the people who were here that had cousins, aunts, uncles, husbands, wives and the like have also been "weeded out" so only one of them is now still working here.

Back in January, they decided to pay us twice a month. One of the secretaries to one of the attorneys bitched because she wanted it every two weeks . So they switched it to every two weeks, regardless of the uproar it caused among the lesser paid people. We were told to "deal". (Did I mention that that secretary who raised such a stink left about a week after the change was announced..she decided she didn't like how they were "playing around" with our paychecks.)

Our human resources person (you know, the one who screwed up withholding and the like) quit. She had originally said she would be here til the end of the school year (that supposedly ended on March 5th). We have a new HR person, but I gotta tell you when those types of people start bailing, it makes you wonder.

There are changes going on behind the scenes and I can't say I like any of them, but I'm not anyone important. Oh, and to add insult to injury, I just found out that there's a whole other person I'm responsible to... he's an *gasp* Associate!. I think tha tmeans I'm supposed to lick his boots or something. These lawyers have a huge inflated opinion of themselves. W hat I wouldn't give to take them ALL down a peg or two.

I need to get out of here... and fast. They're not looking for ways to fire me anymore (that I'm aware of); but this is NOT a healthy work environment. For the past week, I've come home from work, eaten dinner and gone to bed. I'm asleep by 8:30, but I'm still waking up tired. That's not good. I'm not sleeping to sleep, I'm sleeping to escape... and the dreams I'm having lately... OY VEY. I'm just thankful that Bunnya gave Cowya ninja lessons or it would be much much worse!

Tonight I'm supposed to meet someone to get some weaving information on the Islamic period, so that will be helpful. I've also got someone helping me figure out a few things about the weaving that I need help with. Here's hoping that I can make it through today. I hate having to make myself focus on the AFTER work things I've got going on so I can get through the work hours. I don't have much of a choice, so I'll do whatever I have to.

Hopefully the newspaper will arrive sometime today and I can start the search. Wish me luck ya'll!

(Quote from a friend: Speaking about the move to a new team... "doesn't it feel like Judas sold us to the Romans?" I had to agree with her.
