Blind Eyes

There are too many people in this world who turn a blind eye. If it doesn't affect THEM, they turn their head and pretend not to see. Those people who stand up for those who cannot always stand up for themselves deserve a thank you. You may think you did nothing but what you had to do as required by law, but how many other people saw what you saw and did nothing or worse yet, said nothing.

Those people who manage somehow to find the courage to stand up and give testimony no matter how scary and no matter the cost deserve much more than thanks.

Children deserve the constant vigilence of everyone. If someone saw a small child we didn't know approach a red hot stove, would we sit there and watch them burn themselves or would we step in hoping that some day the favor would be returned? It's the same thing.

You were willing to stand with those who were scared and in the minority. That takes guts. You did "the Right Thing" and for once, it should be acknowledged.

It's not always easy to do the right thing. Especially when you're in a position where you're in the forefront and are so visible. It's easier to just "go along" and turn that blind eye. I knew you before you were a knight, and unlike many others, the belt and chain hasn't changed you, the pointy hat (coronet?) you wear hasn't made you any different than the man I met five years ago.

I respected and admired you even before your elevation as a knight and I'm proud to call you my friend.

As for the ongoing thread on tolerance and the like.. the only comment I can think of to add is that it took me a long time to learn that you can still love the person, but not necessarily love EVERYTHING they do and believe. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs and while I may ask you about yours, as long as you don't try to change mine, I won't try to change yours. As my Noni said about church: "It doesn't matter where you sit, the Man is everywhere." Basically, to me it means it doesn't matter who you pray to, as long as you pray.

Please don't forget to answer my survey... it's research for a small business idea... all comments appreciated, no reasonable offer refused!!! It won't take five minutes, I PROMISE!

For Matt, come home safe and sound! We miss you!
