Veteran's Day and an Etiquette Question

2003-02-02 - 1:09 p.m.

Welcome Home

Yesterday sucked the life out of me. I think it's a combination of everything going on and then waking up to such dire news.

You can't help but remember 1985 and the Challenger crew.

I was glued to the television most of the day, and finally had to change the channel. I found myself getting angry at the reporters. For making assumptions for saying incredibly stupid things, for not leaving the families alone to deal with their grief. They all seemed like wolves on the scent of blood.

By the time I changed the channels, I was already muttering things like, let's wait until we have the facts conjecture just pisses people off. I know that at a time like this, people want answers and no one's really interested in being all that patient, but pointint the finger before we know (if we ever really do know, serves no purpose).

I spent most of the day asleep and getting snippets of the reports. Today is better, but there is still sadness, but it's a bit farther removed now. My attention has turned to other things closer to home that need my attention today.

The astronauts that died should be immortalized as heroes. They died doing what they wanted to, what meant something special to each of them. That's more than most people get to do in their lifetimes. They helped pave the way for the generations coming after them.

As President Bush said... they did not make it back to earth, but we can hope they made it home.

Welcome home.

Please don't forget to answer my survey... it's research for a small business idea... all comments appreciated, no reasonable offer refused!!! It won't take five minutes, I PROMISE!

For Matt, come home safe and sound! We miss you!
