Veteran's Day and an Etiquette Question

2002-04-26 - 11:15 a.m.

18 signatures, Kudos and the Weekend

Did you know it takes 18 signatures (18 signatures and two sets of initials) just on the pre-paperwork for a mortgage? We signed the mortgage committment form and the loan application. We met with a laywer this morning, and it seems that all is well, no one appears to be trying to "pull one over on us" and he will make sure they don't from this point on. He basically reassured us that all is well, and he will be looking out for our interests and make sure that everyone does what they're supposed to.

Another interesting thing happened this morning. I, and three co-workers got pulled into my boss's (we call them analysts here) office and they shut the door. There were two other analysts there also.

A couple of days ago, I came back from lunch to find a note on my desk asking me to do some database research and find all of the "possible" matches for a list of 11 people, with various bits of information. I assumed it was another "to do" and just did my usual best.

I found out during the meeting this morning that it was a test designed to find the 4 best researchers. They have invited me and my three co-workers to help design a training module to teach others how to search the database and actually find what they're looking for. We're going to be doing presentations to groups as well as helping write documentation and procedures on how to execute searches. To quote one of the analysts "your good work has been noticed by more than just the three of us!" Not bad for only being here a month (yesterday was my one month "anniversary".

So far, although this job has it's very dull moments, I think it's working okay, but it's still early to tell.

This weekend is Diablo, cleaning and organizing and great company.

Please don't forget to answer my survey... it's research for a small business idea... all comments appreciated, no reasonable offer refused!!! It won't take five minutes, I PROMISE!

For Matt, come home safe and sound! We miss you!
