2004-04-30 - 6:42 a.m. SCA Faith Crisis The entry from last night was a little heavy handed... I'm on a list where we were discussing whether or not a group of us should purchse a fun little non-period sign for the inside of our camp. The fun of it all got summarily squashed in a heavy handed sort of way in no time at all and was fairly insulting in the process. Now, again, it's hard to read expressions over email, and not everyone sees things the way that I do and that's okay. I just ask that you have a little compassion on those of us who aren't living your dream of the current middle ages the way you think that everyone should and remember that a lot of people in our little group don't have the money or the skills to be medievalists... it takes both to really do things right, and a lot of the time, it's considered a good day when lots of our folks can just get to an event...really it is... Now..this brings me to a question that's been hammered to death and then again... I'm an apprentice and I've been asking myself this question for a while and since some of you are Peers, maybe you can help...this question has been bandied about before, but I'm going to ask it again.... what does it mean to be a Peer? What's your definition of a Peer... What's your "purpose" in the SCA as a Peer? I guess I'm having a crisis of "sca faith". I dunno. Please don't forget to answer my survey... it's research for a small business idea... all comments appreciated, no reasonable offer refused!!! It won't take five minutes, I PROMISE! |
