2004-01-26 - 12:22 a.m. A thought I had a memory today. When I was little, I wanted a dog. My father said no, but at night, they'd send me up to bed, and I'd read a book for a little while before going to sleep... Every so often, he'd stop at the top of the stairs and crawl into my bedroom on all fours and make puppy noises,r esting his head on my bed.... he's stay there for a few minutes and we'd talk... (now folks.. consider that at the time, my dad was in his 50's, so it was an effort for him).... One night I had a terrible dream that there was a disembodied head at the end of my bed and it scared me... instead of telling him I had a bad dream and I was scared, I just told him that I didn't want him to do that anymore. He said okay, but he was pretty quiet, and I could see a tiny bit of disappointment and the realization that his baby girl was growing up...... I wished then I could have taken my request back or at least explained myself, but I couldn't find the words. Shortly after that, I also graduated from the Little House books to "more mature" reading material at night.... There are days now, when I wish I could go back to being 7. Wow.. how we all grow up. Please don't forget to answer my survey... it's research for a small business idea... all comments appreciated, no reasonable offer refused!!! It won't take five minutes, I PROMISE! |
