2002-06-27 - 9:15 a.m. One Nation Under God I guess it was how I was raised, I don't know and I haven't really thought much about it. For me, patriotism and religion are pretty closely entertwined. I don't think you can separate one from the other. I'm not sure I *want* to. I think I've sung more patriotic "hymns" in church than I've ever said the pledge of allegiance in school. I think the two are so inextricably linked that if you remove one, both fall apart. My father was ex-military (Navy); my brother is ex-military (Marines); my brother in law is ex-military (another Navy man). I grew up believing in patriotism, the pledge of allegiance, love of God and Country. You might be able to take the words "under God" out of the pledge, but you can't take God (in whatever form you choose to believe) out of the hearts of those who believe in honor, Country and duty. One Nation, UNDER GOD, in GOD we trust. Our forefathers thought it a good thing to put on our currency, why mess with something that's been a part of our heritage from the beginning. I have pride in my country and we've seen how we truly are just a few short months ago. Why this, why now?
